SYTYCD Semi Finals

eggshellblueChelsie and Mark were eliminated. They were easily my faves. *sigh*
In terms of the girls, all 3 were really strong, and as much as I love Katee, I loved Chelsie and Courtney more, so I had hoped they'd be the ones to make it. For the guys, the decision was obvious. The judges clearly had their favorites (Twitch - anyone else notice how they sort of breezed by his awful Mambo performance? Mary gave him props for "pretty much sort of keeping time"? What? Even my brother, who is a huge Twitch fan, said that it was clear favoritism); so, essentially Mark wasn't going to make it (especially not against Josh, that boy is a beast XD). Mark's solo tonight was fantastic, though. I wish he'd used that one last night, it may have tipped things in his favor (since Twitch's solo was also rather lackluster). Too bad voting isn't available in Canada. I'd've voted till my phone broke.
Oh well, the remaining dancers are all spectacular and wonderful, so I'm not angry in the least, just sort of sad that Chelsie and Mark didn't quite make it. Ah well, at least they'll be on the tour, I guess.
I'll definitely post some videos once they're available.

Mark's Solo (results show):
KICK ASS, OMG, I LOVE HIS WEEEIRD QUIRKY STYLE. It's so different from the usual contemporary fare, he really stands out <3
Chelsie's Solo (competition show):
And this is why Chelsie was eliminated. The girl is fabulous, can adapt to different styles, has massive sex appeal, not to mention the legs of a goddess... but she cannot perform a decen solo to save her life. I still believe that after four seasons, Snow was the only ballroom-latin dancer who could pull off an engaging and charismatic solo, that wasn't just randomly flailing around the stage doing promenade walks. (Okay, Lacey was decent too)
[EDIT 2] - While I'm on the topic of Snow... some more videos! Considering that many people didn't see season one, I feel it's my duty to expose the masses to the kick-ass that was Snow >)
Snow is a rarity in amongst the L-B dancers that have appeared on SYTYCD, in that she can actually hold her own performing without a partner. The best proof? She freaking auditioned for the show without a partner. Pretty ballsy, huh?
This is by far my favorite performance from her, simply because she looks and dances like a gypsy *_*;;;
Her first solo on the show:
And her final solo on the show (she didn't last too long, as she kept getting hip-hop to perform XD ~ Also, ignore the wretched hair, she had it spiked for a performance earlier that night):
Aaand, that's all I'll spam you with. Despite the fantastically versatile and talented dancers who came after her, Snow will probably always remain my SYTYCD fave <3

Date: 2008-08-01 02:37 am (UTC)My mum and I both thought that it was going to be Courtney going home today, so we were kinda surprised that she was staying. But it's okay, I still like her, and it's going to be interesting next week with two men who are hip-hop dancers. It's funny that those are the two guys that are left, considering that at the beginning of the Top 20 I couldn't get over the number of contemporary dancers there were.

Date: 2008-08-01 03:25 pm (UTC)And as for Courtney, I could *really* see her gaining momentum throughout the competition. Even though I had pretty much pegged Chelsie in the final, I'm not that surprised that Courtney beat her to it. She really grew on me (I liked her solos).
Yeah, the finale should be fun. GEE I WONDER WHAT DANCE STYLE THE 2 GUYS WILL GET WHEN DANCING TOGETHER? If it's hip hop, I'll be so pissed 'cause then you KNOW IT'S SO FREAKING RIGGED. I'd laugh *so* hard if they got contemporary to dance together. Like, I'd roll around laughing XDD. Same with Katee/Courntney, they'd better not get contemp. when dancing together. THEY NEED TO BE CHALLENGED, this is the finale, not a picnic XD
I'm sad there weren't more (decent) ballroom-latin dancers. Susie doesn't count. And I totally laughed that the ridiculous number of contemp. dancers. But they all seemed to drop like flies XD;
But yes OMFG CANADIAN SYTYCD. Either it will suck, or it will be amazing. I'm hoping for the latter. XD

Date: 2008-08-01 06:03 am (UTC)I'm sad I can't get tickets to see them this year, I got tickets last year and saw the top perform in Toronto, and even though Hawk didn't make the top 10 but he still performed and went on tour which was pretty cool.
I really hope Josh or Katee wins and omg Chelsie was amazing can't believe she got voted off over Courtney.

Also, dude, I've been watching this show religiously since the first season. Like, I'd schedule my week around it, I'm so obsessed.
And OMG I AM SO FREAKING JELIS YOU GOT TO SEE THE TOOOUR!? *sigh* I toootally wanted to go to that ;_;
Currently, I'm pulling for Josh to win, 'cause I feel he deserves it. And as for Courtney, she really grew on me over the course of the show, so I'm not surprised that she won out over Chelsie (though it kind of sucks that there are no Ballroom-Latin dancers in the finale [my favorite style]) ~ Though, I could see it 'cause Chelsie's solos weren't very good, not to mention she was the first to solo Wednesday (which, in turn, meant she was first to be forgotten :/)

This season made me kind of sick because not only did they boot out several talented dancers, they also upped their "favoritism" game severely, and turned a blind eye to several bad performances so they could pimp out their favorite dancers and make people more likely to vote for them. JSg;08ahg;ora8gh8rgh. Ugh.

Katee is sexy, and Will was just... mind blowing. I'm not worried about him, though, he's going to have a long and successful career ahead of him for sure. (seriously, the man is a freaking genius of dance XD)
I'm excited for the finale, even though my faves were eliminated. This season was strange in that everyone performed *really* well, though there were very few dancers who wowed me, like in previous seasons (Natalie/Allison in season 2, for example, kicked all of these contemporary girls in the camel toe, in my opinion XD) ~ But, like, everyone was so strong in adapting and performing to the material they were given, so, like, it was a really fucking talented group this year XD

I love Katee's face, to be honest, that mixed asian look and youthfulness, I think she's half Korean XDD I'm so superficial.
D'aww, I haven't watched last season, I was disappointed with the contemporary girls this seasons too, well since I started watching. I was hoping Comfort would pulled through, but she's only especially good with hip hop. I agree, even if the dance routine was out of their elements they're great at adapting to it. Except for the more technical ballroom dances like the tangos, waltz, etc, you can tell sometimes they have weird extensions or didn't hold their frame, and missed turns.
